It seems to be much easier these days to create rock stars than to produce real rock music. By "real," I mean the kind that shakes your body and slaps your face at the same time, without sounding like yet another copy of someone else's gold album.Era Vulgaris is a real rock record, hard and nasty and dense with feeling. It constantly drives you toward some kind of elemental reality, often by challenging you to decide what isn't real. The music is heavy and direct, but it's not simple. Its complexities are so carefully concealed that it takes several listens to begin to understand how these songs were made.
